• Scheduled Oil Sampling (S.O.S.): Regularly sample the gearbox oil for iron, chromium, and copper levels. Catching bearing wear early can save the entire planetary gear set from total destruction.

• Sprocket Bolt Maintenance: The torque generated by the 390F can stretch bolts over time. Never reuse old sprocket bolts. Always use new Grade 12.9 bolts and follow Caterpillar’s multi-stage torque-turn specifications.

• System Priming: Never run a large travel motor "dry." Fill the motor case with clean, filtered hydraulic oil through the highest drain port before starting the engine to ensure instant lubrication of the rotary group.
